\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0The International Forum on Inter-parliamentary Global Cooperation in the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals was held in Bukhara. Forum participants discussed relevant issues in group sessions. Participants of the 1st<\/sup> session elaborated on the significant role of the parliament in ensuring the effective implementation of the SDGs.<\/div>\r\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0The First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Sodik Safoev and the UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan Helena Fraser moderated the session. Participants of the session reviewed issues of ending hunger, achieving increased food security and nutrition, promoting sustainable agriculture as well as the role of China\u2019s National People\u2019s Congress in promoting the achievement of SDGs.<\/div>\r\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Achieving food security for all is at the heart of FAO\u2019s efforts \u2013 to make sure people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active, healthy lives. During the SDG Week, which preceded the forum in Bukhara, FAO experts highlighted the work being done in this area in Uzbekistan.<\/div>\r\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Within the framework of the 1st<\/sup> session of the forum, experts exchanged views on food security issues and its importance in achieving SDGs.<\/div>\r\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0“I would like to emphasize the importance of international inter-parliamentary cooperation, facilitated by the unique forum held in Bukhara. By involving parliament in the important process of achieving the SDGs, all of humanity should contribute to and benefit from global development”, – noted Rachmat Gobel, Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia<\/strong>, adding that “The SDGs will not be achieved only through the economic growth. It also requires the economy to create fair opportunities for all. This is the basic principle of an inclusive economy”.<\/div>\r\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Wang Xiankui, Vice Chairman on Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee of the National People\u2019s Congress <\/strong>said that “Eradicating poverty and improving the well-being of people is one of the most important and difficult challenges in achieving the SDGs. Since the coronavirus outbreak, China has launched the draft legislation for ensuring public health access. For example, we set the comprehensive ban on illegal trade and consumption of wild animals, considered the bill on biological safety and prevention of episodic diseases, protection of people\u2019s health and safety. We are ready to strengthen partnerships with parliaments of all countries, share experiences and contribute to the achievement of the SDGs for the prosperity of all humankind”.<\/div>\r\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0The session participants also discussed the role of parliament in order to achieve sustainable development in the transition to a green economy. At the same time, it was noted that the development of “green” economy in the context of reducing negative consequences of the Aral Sea crisis and socio-economic and environmental rehabilitation of the Aral Sea region are of current importance not only for Uzbekistan, but also for the whole Central Asian region. Experts noted that transition to a “green” economy will also contribute to the development of producing environmentally friendly agricultural products.<\/div>\r\n
