\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) continues theseries of trainings to strengthen agricultural capacities of the rural population of Karakalpakstan. The trainings were organized as part of a Joint Programme implemented by United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and FAO aimed at strengthening adaptive capacity of vulnerable citizens of the Aral Sea region to address the difficulties of economic and food insecurity. The Joint Programme is funded by the UN Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea Region in Uzbekistan.<\/div>\r\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0From February 7 to 11, 2021, five trainings are being held in the Muynak district of Karakalpakstan providing new opportunities to learn innovations in livestock, horticulture and the use of water-saving technologies in household plots. The national partner is the Association “Women of the Agrarian Sphere” of Uzbekistan. The trainings were attended by more than 120 representatives of socially vulnerable groups of the Aral Sea region, mostly women and youth.<\/div>\r\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00abSupport for women, engaging young people in agriculture will contribute to a more dynamic development of the agro-industrial complex and more sustainable production. During the trainings participants learn new methods in farming, livestock, coming to an understanding that with good skills agriculture could be a valuable source of income\u00bb, – says Chairman of the Association “Women of the Agrarian Sphere” of Uzbekistan, Adiba Akhmedzhanova.<\/strong><\/div>\r\n
\"\"\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0During the trainings, the rural people of Muynak have got new knowledge and skills on efficient use of degraded lands, mineral and organic fertilizers and agricultural technologies in horticulture. The issues of prevention of livestock diseases, the creation of effective feed compositions for livestock, the introduction of drip irrigation technologies in household plots and the rational use of water resources were also considered. Participants display great engagement asking questions and exchanging opinion, thus demonstrating high motivation for personal growth.<\/div>\r\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Within the framework of the above-mentioned Joint Programme, similar trainings were held in the Bozatau district of Karakalpakstan, where, among other topics, participants also learned aquaculture and conservation agriculture practices. Later these trainings will also be held in the Kungrad district of Karakalpakstan. In addition, technical support will be provided to one fish farm in each of tree districts for upgrading existing fishery ponds.<\/div>\r\n
