     Fergana, Uzbekistan, 6 March 2025<\/strong> \u2013 In celebration of International Women\u2019s Day, a roundtable discussion titled \u201cBuilding Futures: Celebrating Women Entrepreneurs on International Women\u2019s Day\u201d<\/em> was held in Fergana by UNDP in cooperation with the Women\u2019s Entrepreneurship Support Company \u201cHamroh\u201d and partners. The event brought together policymakers, experts, and women entrepreneurs to discuss the challenges and opportunities for women\u2019s economic empowerment in Uzbekistan.<\/div>\r\n
     Under the global theme of the International Women\u2019s Day \u201cFor ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.\u201d<\/em>, the roundtable focused on the importance of women\u2019s economic empowerment and supporting their journey as entrepreneurs.<\/div>\r\n
     A landmark event during the roundtable was the official launch ceremony of the \u201cHamroh\u201d company’s new initiative to support women’s entrepreneurship<\/a>. This initiative will be implemented in collaboration with UNDP and the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan, opening up new opportunities for the development of women’s entrepreneurship in the country.<\/div>\r\n
     Akiko Fujii, UNDP Resident Representative, reiterated the importance of fostering an enabling environment for women in business:<\/div>\r\n
     \u201cInvesting in women entrepreneurs is investing in sustainable development. When women have favourable conditions for thriving in business, entire communities prosper. UNDP remains committed to working toward removing barriers and creating more opportunities for women across Uzbekistan together with our partners.\u201d<\/em><\/div>\r\n
     As noted by the director of \u201cHamroh\u201d company Dilfuza Nurmatova, the joint project will contribute to expanding women’s economic opportunities through education and professional development, as well as expert support, including mentorship and acceleration programs. She also emphasized that \u201cHamroh\u201d is the first company in Uzbekistan to provide free consultations for women entrepreneurs, aiming to inspire women to successfully run their businesses.<\/em><\/div>\r\n
     The roundtable agenda included a presentation of the study conducted under the Aid or Trade<\/em> project, funded by the Government of Finland. The study explored barriers faced by women entrepreneurs, including social care responsibilities, limited access to finance, and sector-specific obstacles.<\/div>\r\n
     UNDP experts presented the preliminary findings, emphasizing the need for improved social care policies, enhanced financial accessibility, and expanded training opportunities for women entrepreneurs.<\/div>\r\n
     These insights were further reinforced by the experiences shared by successful women entrepreneurs from across Uzbekistan, who highlighted both their struggles and triumphs.<\/div>\r\n
